Wig Websites. Don't be fooled off

At the time of acquiring a wig online, there are many factors that we must take into account when choosing our trusted website, one is the price, but there are others that in principle are not so obvious and that are also fundamental to not take us surprises. I have compiled the most important ones so that you can compare websites, choose and buy safely.

When we want to buy a wig from a prestigious firm, the first thing we do is compare the price (since the product is the same), within this there are added costs that we have to check to make a real comparison:

  • Many pages show the price without VAT, and it only appears when we are going to place the order. It is something misleading, since 21% increases the price ostensibly and we will always have to pay it.

  • Shipping costs; to the price of the product, you have to add the transport costs. In some websites they are free depending on the country of destination, in others, from a certain amount, and in others it is necessary to pay them always. This cost is not usually seen until the delivery address is entered when checking out.

  • Customs Charges. Prices in the US are still somewhat lower than in Europe thanks to currency exchange and, in the case of wigs, many of the most prestigious brands are from there (such as René of Paris or Jon Renau), so in origin the prices are always lower. To the transport costs (between € 40 and € 60) we must add the customs costs (21% VAT + Import Tax); the latter varies, and I have always been charged differently. But to make an estimate you can add 25% to the price of the products purchased. Not always this expense is charged, but there are many possibilities that it is, I would count on it. Since the UK left the European Union, customs costs must also be added to shipments, in addition lately there are many delays in transport.

  • Foreign exchange. If we buy our products outside the European Union, the prices will be in another currency, many websites give us the possibility to choose our currency, you can also use any converter to check how much it costs us in €.

  • Copies. We can find pages in which photos of wigs of prestigious brands appear but they are not the original ones; sometimes they can be easily recognized because the names are not exactly the same, other times the prices are outrageously lower. The brands themselves have a regulatory framework of prices that stores have an obligation to comply with. So if prices are extremely lower, be wary; it may be a copy that possibly has nothing to do with the original wig.

Once we have checked the price, and we have the real price that we are going to pay, there are other factors that we have to take into account when choosing one website or another, since they are equally or more important:

- Origin of the Web. This helps us to discriminate unreliable pages, possible frauds, fakes, etc. A simple way to check their origin is to contact them, through a contact email or a phone number, talk to them before placing your order.

- Customer Service. Advice when choosing your new hair is essential, especially if it is the first time you acquire a wig. There are many technical aspects to take into account and thousands of possibilities, ask for help if you have doubts, so you can also see which professional (or not) is behind each page.

- Exchange and Return Policy. In the world of wigs, many websites do not admit changes or returns citing supposed hygiene reasons, as if the wigs could not be sanitized! There are others that supposedly do admit it (but if you read the fine print, it is only in case the piece is defective (which is very rare to happen, since high-end wigs pass exhaustive quality controls).

There are other websites that admit changes, but not returns (so in no case will they return your money), and others that in principle do admit them, but then put some very cumbersome procedures to be able to access it.

When the page has a clear policy that accepts changes and returns without any problem, also take into account where the destination of the return will be, since these expenses will be borne by your account (It is not the same to pay € 6 for a return to Spain than € 60 to China ...).

- Secure Payment Gateway to prevent unauthorized transactions and fraud. Pay your orders only if the website offers you a gateway with all the security measures for electronic commerce. There are several like Stripe or PayPal. If you are not sure about using the gateways with your credit or debit card, the honest and reliable websites will always give you other possibilities to make your payments, such as bank transfer or cash on delivery or even Bizum, which are totally safe.

I hope these little tips will help you choose your website, the one that best suits your circumstances and needs. Good buy!
